Diversify Our Syllabi: Islamic Philosophy (Link to Video and Handout)

The Diversity Committee of the Department of Philosophy at York is pleased to announce the first of a series of workshops, "Diversifying Our Syllabi: Islamic Philosophy."

This series serves to support philosophy educators in our efforts to diversify the content of our syllabi. In each workshop in this series, a scholar with research or teaching experience in a specific area of underrepresented philosophy is asked to address three questions: (a) what is the history of the topic, (b) what are the major disagreements within this history, and (c) what are some suggestions for readings (and available translations)  that other philosophers could incorporate into their syllabi. All philosophy educators (including TAs) and interested philosophers welcome!

Our first workshop on the topic of Islamic Philosophy will be led by Professor Muhammad Ali Khalidi (York University, Philosophy). He is editor and translator of Medieval Islamic Philosophical Writings, Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2005.

When: 3:30-5:30, Friday Feb 10, 2017. Where: Philosophy Department, York University.
